THE STORY BEHIND THE PAINTING

A chapter in light and place.

THE JOURNEY

The most dramatic mountain light often arrives briefly, when a distant peak catches warmth while the surrounding land has already begun to darken.

Crimson Peak was born from that contrast: a solid, enduring form transformed by color that could not last.

IN THE STUDIO

The mountain was built with substantial knife marks to preserve its physical weight, then softened with transparent warm layers.

Cooler surrounding passages intensified the crimson light without allowing the color to become isolated from the landscape.

THE SURFACE

Paint seen at close range.

At distance, the marks resolve into landscape. Up close, the work returns to paint—edges, transparent passages, knife marks and areas where the surface remains deliberately active.

COLLECTOR'S NOTE

Living with the work.

Crimson Peak is a strong focal work whose combination of mountain form and vivid light gives it considerable presence.
