THE STORY BEHIND THE PAINTING
THE JOURNEY
There are sunsets that are beautiful, and others that feel almost unsettling in their intensity. This was the latter.
The red sky did not simply illuminate the landscape; it changed its emotional character, making the familiar feel briefly elemental.
IN THE STUDIO
The color was built in transparent stages so the red would remain luminous rather than heavy.
The darker land below was simplified, creating a visual pause that allowed the sky to dominate without overwhelming the painting.

THE SURFACE
At distance, the marks resolve into landscape. Up close, the work returns to paint—edges, transparent passages, knife marks and areas where the surface remains deliberately active.
