THE JOURNEY
Fresh snowfall quiets a place while simplifying it. Color becomes subtle, edges soften and familiar forms are reduced to their most important relationships.
I was drawn to the sense of renewal—the feeling that the landscape had been briefly returned to an earlier, untouched state.
IN THE STUDIO
The snow was painted through color rather than white alone, using cool blues, greys and muted reflected warmth.
Texture was concentrated where the land broke through, creating a dialogue between softness and structure.
THE SURFACE
Paint seen at close range.
At distance, the marks resolve into landscape. Up close, the work returns to paint—edges, transparent passages, knife marks and areas where the surface remains deliberately active.
