THE JOURNEY
A full moon changes the balance of a landscape. Familiar forms become silhouettes and the sky takes on a presence usually reserved for daylight.
The scene felt suspended—neither fully dark nor illuminated in the ordinary sense. That ambiguity became the emotional center of the work.
IN THE STUDIO
The moon was kept simple, allowing surrounding value and color to create its brightness rather than relying on stark contrast alone.
Layered blues and softened edges hold the atmosphere together, while heavier foreground marks give the painting physical grounding.
THE SURFACE
Paint seen at close range.
At distance, the marks resolve into landscape. Up close, the work returns to paint—edges, transparent passages, knife marks and areas where the surface remains deliberately active.
